57th Convention of the International Fire Buff Associates, Inc. (IFBA)
Washington, DC

8/13/09

On Thursday August 13, the IFBA convention held an all day event at the DCFD training academy.

The events for the day started with the attendees watching one of the recruit classes performing different nozzle evolutions at a car fire set up.

After these evolutions were completed, a separate car fire was set ablaze and the DCFD Foam Unit 1 demonstrated using it's foam nozzles to suppress the fire.

The next event was a mock Box Alarm operations demonstration that was performed by some companies doing evolutions at the burn building.

Here is Engine 17 and Tower Ladder 3 in position at the burn building during the demonstration.

Engine 29's crew had to advance their standpipe racks to the roof of the burn building and set up a flying standpipe for their first evolution. To the left you can see Tower Ladder 3's crew raising a ladder as part of their operations.

The next event, and the longest event of the day, was an apparatus photo shoot. It included both DCFD apparatus and some apparatus from surrounding jurisdictions.

Here are two of the DCFD's newer rigs that were on display.

There was also some antique apparatus on display. Here is an old DCFD steamer engine which belonged to Engine 18.
