CF speeds

Discussion in 'Nikon DX DSLR Forum' started by Vernon t, May 4, 2005.

  1. Probably discussed prior but a search didn't turn up a specific answer.

    CF speeds and D2X use.
I've been perfectly happy with a couple of run-of-the-mill Sandisk basic 1gb CF's from the Costco up the street.

Question: Who of you feel the need for faster than basic speed CF cards.
Cost isn't that much different and scrimping here isn't a big deal, but really, does it ever matter if I don't do sports much and rarely would shoot more that a couple of 10 round bursts?

    Thanks.
    ! B&H saws D2X shipped...here Friday!

    I want 2 2GB cards

    To summarize for my purpose:

    At amazon today:
Sandisk standard 2gb $138 "standard speed"
Sandisk Ultra II 2gb $180 about 6 times faster
Sandisk Extreme III 2gb $220 about 8 times faster

A little more money gets a lot more performance.
If you never fill the buffer it may never matter.

The SanDisk Extreme III`s are the fastest cards on the market, why? becuase they use CF V3.0 and the only cameras that support it at the moment are the D2x and D2hs, for me doing sports the speed is very noticable when comapred to Lexar 40x
