Challenge #64 - Topic Thread

Discussion in 'Challenge and Contests Forum' started by bcoons, May 19, 2009.

  1. So what exactly is the time frame?

  2. It is clearly stated in the Challenge rules and description of the current topic, which in fact is the very first post in this thread, dated May 19th.

    ---------------------------------------------------

So, on to Challenge #64 topic: [drumroll:] WHEELS

Wheels are all around us. Round things generally, some are spinning to some purpose, some not. Car wheels, pin wheels, water wheels, wheels of cheese. They abound. For moving wheels there is the challenge of capturing movement in a still image. Others, for some reason, are static. Why? Let's see some imagination!

    The Basic Challenge Rules apply:

    1. Every participant is allowed one picture per challenge.

    2. The picture has to be taken between the submission start and end date. This is to make it a "Challenge" and not just another "Best Picture Contest"

    3. The posted picture must remain unaltered, once posted. But the text of the participation may be edited/changed, as often as necessary (for possible exceptions contact the Challenge Leader)!

    4. Pictures may be processed/edited and worked on, in post production before submitting them, but the main picture/content must have been taken during the submission dates.

    5. Somewhat controversial pictures are permitted, but please use your judgment and keep it within reason. ( Note that this community should remain suitable for all age groups )

    6. If there are any questions or obscurities the Challenge Leader is the person to appeal and to decide.

    7. The actual Challenge Leader has the freedom to alter the rules, if reasonable (except Rule 5 perhaps). But he/she has to make sure the rules are clearly stated and applied to all submissions.

    8. Please try to keep the identity of the photographer/participant hidden (as long as the challenge is running, and voting isn't finished) So don't include the name or post the picture anywhere else on the cafe for the duration of the challenge! Don't use pictures, that have already been shown/posted in the cafe forums.

The shooting starts now [May 19th] and ends 2359 GMT Sunday 7 June 2009. That gives us a little over two weeks and three weekends including a holiday weekend in the US.

    Let's see some wheels!

  3. I'm new and really dont understand these rules.

  4. What's so difficult to understand about the Challenge begins on May 19th and finishes up on June 7th, and that submissions must be images shot during that time frame?

  5. Okay I understood that part and my photo was deleted. Why?

  6. My photo was taken within the time frame.

  7. Presumably the EXIF data indicated that it was shot at a time outside the time frame of the challenge.

  8. How can you post a pic if the thread is locked?

I really enjoyed this challenge, I went out for a day trip and took loads of pics specifically for this one.

The only trouble was deciding which picture to use when I got home!

  12. Most impressive participation in this challenge! It's been since Feb'09 that we've not had a multi-page Submission thread. Keep those entries comin' in, let's push this one to three pages!

I would like to see the pictures, with their photog's names on it after the challenge has ended. Is there a way to automate this?

I'd really like to know who are the 2nd and 3rd place winners...

Errr...that is, I'd really like to know who the winners were from distant events. I can't seem to find the winners of challenge 1-62.

  16. Scroll to the bottom of the main page in "Challenges" forum, and in the 3rd dropdown box "From," change from "last month" to "Last year" (or whatever time frame you want) and the other threads should re-appear.

That's true. But I think the original point was that there is no way to see who submitted the other entries in any given challenge. Normally when giving the results of the vote the challenge leader identifies the first, second and third place posters. But we never know who submitted the other entries, some of which were still enjoyable and impressive. I wonder if there is any way the "robot" can automatically post the photo's author after the challenge. Sometimes it would be nice to know.

  18. Ah, I see what you're saying. That, I don't know. But I'll ask the person who does.

    On the other hand ......

If I had entered a not so hot image that didn't get any votes, I might not want folks to know which one was mine, and quietly slink off into obscurity to try again on the next challenge.
