Charleston SC #1 - Audubon Swamp Garden

Discussion in 'Birds' started by bobhoge, May 17, 2005.

  1. We visited the Magnolia Plantation in Charleston SC and it includes the Audubon Swamp Garden. The garden is about 70 acres and you walk through it on narrow dikes.
We saw nesting Great Egrets, Anhingas, Alligators, and Turtles. They were not real close, 400mm would have been better than the 300mm we were using for these shots, all uncropped.
Nesting Great Egret (about as close as you could get):

Preening Great Egret (more typical distance):

Big Gator (about as close as you would want to get ):

    Turtle on a log:

    Alligator menacing Turtles

Trip Information is posted in Places to Shoot here

Very nice Bob. Are you and Nan going to join us at Merritt in a couple of weeks?
  6. Bob:

My wife and I were there also, about 2 weeks ago. The swamp was great. Great shots, btw. I have some posted in both birds and landscape.

  7. Nice shots Bob. I may have to go to Charleston soon, and would visit there if time allows.
