  1. Anyone ever take one of these hokey portraits? Tried my daughter tonight. Any suggestions for my next attempt?

    Very nice

Do you mind sharing how you set this up--camera and lighting. The only criticism that I have is I am not sure what the beige round object is in the foreground. Is it the end of a ladle? I think it might detract from the photo just a bit. Otherwise, just perfect.

That is so cute, but I have to agree with Terri; the ladle looks awkward.

    Great Job

  10. Terri,
Thanks for your comments. I agree about the ladle. I actually had several other props which all got cropped out. That just makes the ladle look awkward.

The lighting setup was pretty simple. I had an SB600 firing into an umbrella on my right. An SB800 was on camera bounced off the ceiling to try and minimize some shadows. All done with the neat CLS.

Thanks for the info. Question--what is CLS? Thanks, Terri

  12. Sorry. That's what Nikon call's the Creative Lighting System (CLS).

Mitch, this is an awesome shot, and SO CUTE! Excellent job on the exposure. The only shadow I can detect is the one between her shoulder & the cookbook. Not a biggie. The only things I would change to improve it would be to eliminate the ladle altogether, and raise the cookbook up just enough so you can read the bottom word.

  14. Mitch...this is one of the cutest pictures I have seen. The chef's hat is adorable on the baby.

    A Winner

    Mitch

    For me, an absolute winner!

Just class and a great shot.

    Very best wishes

    Ray

I now have an ambition - to get my little girl to sit still for just 2 seconds!!!!

  16. Thanks for all the kind replies.
Steve, my only other keeper showed the cookbook better. Here it is. Unfortunately, the ladle is still in this shot.

    Mitch,

This shot is absolutely adorable and would make a very nice cover on the next Betty Crocker Kids' Cookbook!!

By the way, the "Gerber baby" has got nothing on your baby's beautiful face! Thanks for sharing.
