I'm currently working on the itinerary for my trip to the Pacific Northwest. It's a long driving trip from Chicago to Seattle. As it turns out, my travels will once again take me through Yellowstone National Park!

Here's one of the Chromatic Pool from last year:

Excellent photo, how far did you have to hike to get that shot?
I'll be there next week.

Its only a short distance from the grand loop road, if I remember correcty  and the whole distance is (almost) covered by boardwalks.
If it still for free I dont remember, but the settings are great for pictures

remember.. I am just north of Portland and well versed with Mt. St Helens if you wish and are willing to hike some and the weather cooperates.

Thanks! This pool is located in the Upper Geyser Basin near Old Faithful. You can reach this by walking along the boardwalk behind Old Faithful toward the Morning Glory Pool. Ask at the Visitor Center next to the Old Faithful Geyser--but if I recall this was an easy 3/4 mile or so walk.

I realy like that

Thanks Nico

Thanks again...as it turns out, I'll be spending more time in Olympic National Park and very little, if any, at Mt. St. Helens. However, I might end up coming through Portland at some point. Here's a rough itinerary of the trip so far: http://www.nagelphotography.com/blog/2013/6/pacific-northwest-trip---rough-itinerary

Stunningly beautiful, Glenn!

Thanks Klaus-Peter

Hey! that egg has got a green yolk.....Just joking.
That is a very interesting shot!
What is the content of it to make it look like that?

Thank you, Colin...I believe that the color comes from certain kinds of bacteria that thrive in such warm water temperatures.

I checked out your itinerary and that's an epic trip.

A couple places that might be of interest off the beaten path in Oregon.

Toketee Falls on the Umpqua River, on the way to Crater Lake is beautiful.

Rogue River Gorge and Natural Bridge in the Crater Lake area is interesting.
At Natural Bridge, the Rogue River disappears into a lava tube and comes
out a short ways downstream.

Sweet Creek Falls in Mapleton, OR. It's between Eugene and Florence. It's a great
little hike with cascades around every turn.

The sea stacks at Bandon are classic.

I'm so envious. I look forward to seeing your photos.

Thanks Alvin...I suspect that it will be a real adventure. Thanks for your recommendations--I've added those locations to my trip notes.
