I went after the short eared owls today and they were there, but not within shooting range. I took a number of Harrier shots...

    large.

    large.

By this time the fingers on my right hand were frozen to the point that i could barely pus the shutter button....it had started to snow..wisps falling from the clouds. I had to shoot this sunset....

(I know it's noisy but I was freezing and wasn't thinking..so don't be mean to me. It's still beautiful!)

Amazing shots Jim. How much cropping did you have to do on the Harriers?

    Hi Frank...

I got them to fill about 1/3 of the frame in the original shots. The problem is that where I had set up...the suckers would fly right at me (I was kinda hiding) and they'd get too damned close!

I got dozens like these this afternoon.

  4. Absolutley fantastic!!! Thank you!! The last shot is great!! :D :D :D

  5. All three of these images are excellent Jim. The last one is a truly beautiful image.

    A) You stand in a salt marsh for 4 1/2 hours with a constat 15-20mph wind at your back...YOU FREEZE!

    Jim,
These are excellent. The second one is a real eye catcher and wall hanger just like the sunset. Great stuff.

I really don't know how you can go out when it is that damn cold. I sure can't , won't .

    Good job.

    Cheers

    Steve...

Believe me...had you been standing there, you could have captured these as well. There's no magic other than being able to quickly adjust EV. The afternoon sky in this particular spot has widely ranging luminosities and as the birds swing by, things change quickly...you simply learn quickly to adjust.

And you must learn to adjust quickly as well....

    Patrick...

    Thanks :)

I sat in the snow to get a low angle for this shot and my hands were so frozen that I had trouble pushing the shutter release!

It was too pretty not to capture it though....
