Not a great photo, but at least we got out to see it and try to get a photo. It's fairly high in the sky now. This was from the foothills outside our town. I had no idea what I was doing. It was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. I wanted to use a longer telephoto zoom lens until I realized I had nothing bright enough to focus on. My lenses for my Z6 don't have markings for the zoom ring so I had no infinity mark to start my focus from. How do you focus on the sky on a mirrorless camera on a lens with no markings to show focus distance?

Nice shot Terri.

You can also use the hyperfocal distance to get infinity focus.
On a Z6 at 50mm and f/4 the hyperfocal distance is about 70ft. So if possible just focus on something 100ft out or so and then don't refocus.

Another image with better sky. Tail is incredible now. About 5 degrees long, maybe longer. 500mm f8 ISO1250 4x20sec stack.

While I was happy to get a glimpse of the comet on two different occasions, I wasn't that happy with my photo results. I am sure much of that is due to technique and viewing location, but I am wondering how much I can do in Lightroom to at least polish up what I have since somebody has asked for a copy of an image. I do not normally do any type of astrophotography and suspect that my post processing techniques are not giving me the best from my images. I wanted the tail to be visible, but efforts to highlight it seemed to introduce more noise so I took a light hand and backed off a bit. Attached are two of the images that I processed. Both are single shot and one is from my D750 w/200-500 f/5.6 and the other is from my E-M1 Mk II w/40-150 f/2.8. Any Lightroom post processing suggestions for possible improvement would be greatly appreciated.

Had a chance to see it over several nights and mornings. Shooting between houses (and trees) in my front yard. D850,500mm, 5.6,30 sec, guided, 5 frame stack
