I had a chance to use my kayak with my wife and friends yesterday. We went to a lake and enjoyed finding a pair of loons with a pair of chicks. What really got interesting was when another male showed up. There was a big fight to drive it away - by both parents. If you know loons then you know they need a lot of open water to get a running start before they can get airborne. It was a funny sight to watch each loon trying to get into the air and be higher than its adversary. The action, unfortunately, was too far away to bother trying to photograph - it lasted almost a half hour before the odd male was driven off. Here are 3 of the shots I was able to take.
