the 50/1.4 has some bad colors
  6. thank you, danielle
    i really appreciate that
  7. you're welcome, Greg. a very interesting article Romulo has here; I've been eyeing the 1.2 Ais...
  8. Great writeup.

    A few suprises for me.

    50/1,8 poor corner performance.

    50/1,8 CA... never seen it.

50/1,4 bokeh was not that much better then the 50/1,8 in this test.

  9. I liked this as well, thanks for posting.

I think I'll stick with my 1.8D because of it's punchy contrast and great saturation. That's what I like most about the lens, and since that is some what absent in the 1.4 I'm glad I never tried to 'upgrade'. I can live with minor corner softness and CA.

in the original post, you wrote 1.4D twice :p

    Great write up, thanks
  11. Great writeup. But I was very surprised to see the 50/1.2 do so badly at f/2 - I would have expected it to be sharper than the 50/1.4 and 50/1.8 at f/2. I remember seeing another comparison where they came to exactly that conclusion!

  12. Thanks for the detailed review Romulo and welcome to the Cafe!
  13. pretty detailed review... good work! I am actually impressed at the results of the 50 f/1.8 I didn't think it would even come close performance wise but base on the photos, I was happy with the results.

Very good detailed comparison, shows not much real advantage in going from the f/1.8 -> f/1.4 unless you really need that extra bit of light, infact you're losing resolution from doing so!

You don't say what camera you used for the test though? Was it full frame or DX?
