Cooking up our own D2XMODE1

Well, I am going to miss using D2XMODE1 in all my cameras (D300, D700), but since I prefer having all my cameras shoot (even though I do RAW) with the same picture control (to reduce PP time), and since my new D7000 does not support loading of the D2XMODE1 picture control, and to boot, ViewNX2 doesn't apply application of the same to D7000 NEF files in post-processing, I went back to an emulated D2XMODE1 tone curve and picture control I developed back in my D90 days. While I was at it, I tried my hand at developing a new emulated control to see if I could do any better this time around.

The results, including a download for anyone who wishes to try these out for themselves, along with sample comparisons against the real D2XMODE1 and Portrait Picture Control, can be located at:

I would love to hear whether others find this useful.

Reference: PORTD2XM1, D2XM1SIM, emulated D2XMODE1 picture controls
