Couldn't shut off camera

I'm sure it's in the destruction book somewhere, but I was attempting to print to my Epson R300 directly from the camera. It takes FOREVER for a print to be made. I believe this is due to file size. I made one print and then turned off the camera and unplugged the USB cord. The camera would not turn off. I did a quick scan of the book and found no reference to 'troubleshooting' so I did what any self respecting gizmo freak would do and pulled the battery out of the camera. That fixed it. Anybody else run across stuff like this?

I have had a camera flash combo start acting up
once. I could not shut the camera off or the flash
and the flash display in the back was going nuts.
I had to pull the batt out of the D1x to stop the
madness. Put new batt in the flash and the
problem has never come back.

Thanks. When in doubt, take the battery out. I guess.
