Crop Size Ratio

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by adr3naline, Oct 1, 2008.

  1. Hey everyone... We've all had to crop, or crop and rotate to get the image just right. I'm sure that there is a general rule for picture size ratios? How should I crop and make it correctly proportional? I cropped an image last night, but just how I liked it, and now it's like 1000 pixels wide x 3500 tall... not a standard size.

What are the guidelines for this stuff?

Either crop to a standard size/ratio or accept that your crop isn't one and be prepared for any printing/framing to be custom. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with that.

There certainly isn't one standard, or even 2. There are all sorts of standard print sizes and only a few share the same ratio.
  3. When I crop I like to stick to the 3:2 aspect ratio.

Have a look at this link here: Aspect Ratio
  4. Forget ratios. Crop for artistic expression. Any frame can be matted
  5. Personal work, I crop how I like.

For any paid work, I crop at 3:2 but leave enough space to do a 5:4 crop.
