Nothing easier than shooting tame and captive birds :) This one was about 5 feet away.

Amazing colors!

I visited one of my favorite local places today: the Falls Ridge Nature Conservancy property. I'm a volunteer trail monitor there, and it was my duty to walk the trails today. It's always a pleasure.

I can't describe it any better than the Conservancy page: "Part of a steep, rugged ridge that rises from the valley of the North Fork of the Roanoke River, Falls Ridge Preserve boasts a spring-fed travertine waterfall approximately 80 feet in height. Salem Fault runs through the preserve, dividing it into two different rock types-Precambrian limestone and shale/sandstone. The corresponding difference in soil types generates a diversity of vegetation, particularly wildflowers and smaller flora."

There were lots of wildflowers blooming today, including delphinium, spiderwort, columbine, wild phlox, a few fading trillium, and pink lady's slippers:

Looks like a great place to walk around. Nice set Jim.

Yesterday I visited Mystic Seaport. I have been a member at Mystic Seaport for many, many years and visit often. I wanted to see the completed restoration of the Charles W. Morgan before she sets sail next week on her 38th voyage (the first in 93 years). The 173 year old wooden ship looks fine. Those are not dust spots on my sensor but are rain drops on my lens.

Beautiful ship Dan. You captured it well.

These will also work for last weeks "walk about."

I live in a rural part of England called the Vale of Belvoir.

Our village is pretty much in the spot where the counties of Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire meet.

I don't have to go far on my bike to get a view like this:

Weather hasn't been cooperating lately, but I did get a small break today, before I go on travel for work (so no more pictures near home ). I went to Lake Massabesic, which is only two miles away, as the crow flies. It is a favorite place for Charley and me to walk, loads of trails and paths...

My favorite place near home is, um, home! I like to go there because, well, I’m already there. With a macro lens there is always something interesting to shoot, especially after it rains.

Thank you very much, Bob. A macro lens can make just about anything interesting.

Al - gorgeous!
