Hi folks. Sorry I've been absent so much, but I have been tied up more than usual wrapping up my part time work and entering full retirement.

This weeks theme "Up/Down, but not All Around" is designed to take us out of our comfort zone in framing shots .... not just to shoot vertically up or down, but also to attempt to do so using the same creativity (and lenses) we do in shots from a more ordinary perspective. So here's the deal: let's shoot straight up or straight down, plus or minus a 30 degree angle. We can change perspective by choice of distances and lenses. Hopefully we can have both fun and a photographic challenge at the same time.

As per normal, post as often as you like but only three shots (max dimension 800 pixels) per post, at any time starting Thursday Feb 4, at 12:01am your local time, and ending before 11:59pm the following Wednesday evening.

I've included a few shots below as examples, not coincidentally all shot with a wide angle lens which I find a blast for this kind of shooting although teles and normals also have their merits.

Midday Sunstar (don't look too closely....ugh, dirt spots)

Nice theme Harry. I think this will be a lot of fun. Surely not something I'd normally do. Thanks for hosting us this week.

Well, here goes: I'm sitting down looking up a number in the phone book (kids, this one is NOT a smart phone app!!) One flash is up, over the book, and another is lower down shining up at my face.

I'm usually looking down to find flowers and insects - that or trying not to trip over something. No bugs around this time of year, unfortunately but a lot of tripping on icy sidewalks.
I was downtown again today and did a bit of looking up.

1. Not a lot of tall buildings in Winnipeg.

Lt Bobby Brown, that is what we call him and he is well remembered. He is Buried beside his master, in historic Rose Hill Cemetery.

Nice set Larry. You even got some reflections of other buildings in the first shot (I always liked the look of reflections in the glass).

No tall buildings to shoot like Larry, so I went to my often visited Rose Hill.
