Welcome to Collective Shoot #491, starting Thursday April 7, 2016 at 12:01am local time and ending the following week on Wednesday April 13 at 11:59pm.

Tough to follow "Everything RED", but here goes. If any of you took a sneak peak ahead of time, this shoot's theme is "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles". Actually I am stretching the definition of autos a bit by including anything that travels on city streets and has a least four wheels.

Not everybody may have access to all of the above, but everybody has access to at least some of the above. And your imagination can let you roam far beyond the physical proximity and access to the "real thing" if you wish. So let your imagination soar!

Here are a sampling of shots to get us started:

Here is a "real" train, Amtrak's "The Vermonter" passenger train on its once-a-day southbound run. It is coming into Holyoke station (half an hour late, as usual).

Perhaps your memories stretch back to early childhood, playing with a Lionel train set. This is all I have left of mine (except for the memories, of course).

Or perhaps all that is left of trains in your hamlet/village/city/country is a roadbed from long ago, such as was the case for the current Manhan Rail Trail. This particular line ran between New Haven, CT and Vermont and New Hampshire.

If you were a child into model building you lived for models of warplanes, like the F-15's that patrol the Northeast from Barnes Airfield, a mere twelve miles away (and pairs of which fly right over my head every four hours ... they are not quiet, my friends).

I ran across this in a scrapbook the other day ... shot with my old Hawkeye Brownie (and looks it) that I macroed today. A B-25 "Liberator" that won me first prize in a modeling contest.

And finally, Autos! What is there to say. Show us your finest!

Or climb on to the bus and enjoy the ride .....

Great theme Harry! Super examples - my favorite being the F15.

I know I can get at least one of those transportation items in the theme! :)

Neat theme and examples, Harry. You certainly made it broad enough that nobody should feel excluded. [Love the B-25 and the not-so-perfect car]
Thanks, Bob. I had to be aware that not everybody has easy access to planes or trains .... but I suspect cars, buses, and trucks are safe. And memories and artifacts.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Harry, good topic and hope to join in. The last few weeks have gone by too fast for me to chime in...lots of family stuff taking priority. I have a train I know in mind, though it is frustratingly hard to image as it is parked on a siding with shadowd and patchy light. Will try!

Start of an ugly weekend – We’ve had wind, falling temperatures, and rain since late yesterday with the rain changing to snow as I write this. [forecast is for mixed rain and snow through early Saturday:(] This afternoon, I ventured as far as our front porch from where I could see the occasional truck out on the highway. I was hoping to catch a shot of the spray – this was the best I could do.

Well, you caught some spray ..... and really colorful truck making it. Nice capture. Were you telephotoing, just using a more normal lense?

Sometimes the sideshows are as good as the main event. Here is a scrap metal yard where three cranes (one magnetic ... shades of my Lionel days) are loading scrap onto cars for transport. Amd a line of cars on the siding awaiting their turn.

Thanks, guys. Harry, that was with my 70-200. The main photography problems were exposure and timing -- there were trees to the right and left, and I wanted to avoid panning into the ugly tree on the left.

Came out well Bob. I hear you about the teaser Mother Nature has done with unseasonably warm temps here, and then dips to cold weather and snow or rain. It's been a roller coaster, and I haven't wanted to go out at all.

Thanks, Paul. I caught several other trucks, but this was the best of the bunch.

Harry, your railroad scenes are something I have not seen for years -- active railroads are a thing of the past around here. [shades of Ayn Rand]

(unfortunately 200mm from 15 miles away doesn't make for a great shot, but it is what it is...)

Nice. That would be so cool to watch. Do they publish launch schedules? I'm heading your way in June and would love to see one

Well, if we have room for trucks and buses and toys, we certainly have room for rockets. Actually the sense of scale we get from the shot has its own appeal, Brian. Nice capture.
