Hello together,
let's start this year simple: Take pictures of birds of your region.
Show them in front of your window or if you have seen them on a walk.

I took the following pictures on January 1st. We had cloudy, stormy and rainy weather that day. I was out there with my D700 and the 200-500mm lens
That's the reason the pictures are looking greyish...

It's not going to happen here at 50N where the temperaures are running well below freezing. It was -29C this morning :(.

Chilly chickadee

With a nasty wind and air temperatures rising only from 0° to 18° F today, this chickadee was puffed up to the maximum to keep warm. [My bird population continues at very low numbers – less than a dozen birds all day today.]

Yeah same here. Blizzard conditions, temps near zero. Haven’t see a bird in a while...

Now that you mention it -- rocks and bugs are your forte. But you do know your birds, for sure!
I like to think I can do other things reasonably well, too :), but bird photography is a speciality which I don't pursue. I'll shoot a bird if an opportunity arises, though. I've been birding for over 50 years so I have a reasonable familiarity with North American species.

Sorry Larry, I didn't thought of that.
It's much to warm here - +12°C...

And - I'm not a bird photographer either. But from time to time I try it.

Kind regards

The leaves blowing around are interesting to watch though...

Red-bellied woodpecker

This guy surprised me just by being outside my kitchen window. I grabbed a camera, snapped a shot, and he was gone. Maybe I’ll do better tomorrow.:censored:
