My miniature model steam engine hobby room that my darling wife thinks I'm a bit obsessive with :) :) :)

Two of my favorite things:

1. Quirky old lenses, with both their flaws and their character. They can be like bones buried by a dog: tucked away and forgotten for some time. Lately, I've gotten a couple that are "new to me" and reacquainted myself with others on a mirrorless body. It has been an extremely enjoyable year for me getting back to basics in this way.

2. Now that fall is back, one of my favorite ways to spend a Saturday morning is to watch a cross country meet. In our area, they don't run dual meets much, just big invitationals. That means six races, each with very large field of runners and plenty of opportunity to shoot action, but not with the lenses pictured above!

My patio with the just installed screen, checkered chairs to sit on and a cushion for the....oh yeah....the CAT!

Today I was able to use one of my favorite things (my camera) to capture one of my favorite sights this time of year: reflections in the lake of the leaves on a nearby tree as they just begin their fall changeover from green to gold and red.....

In July 2018 I was preparing for a special photo opportunity and I realized that for various reasons none of my lenses were going to really do what I needed -- not long enough reach -- and because we were going to be at the beach, there would be issues around blowing sand, humidity, salty air, seawater, etc., and I was hesitant to take a DSLR and have to try and swap out lenses in a setting where I wasn't sure what the situation was going to be.....so I did some research, went shopping and brought home the Sony RX10 M4, which I figured would work nicely for this occasion and maybe I'd use it once in a while later, too.... I had no idea at that time how this camera was going to almost immediately make itself my favorite out of all my camera gear! Over a year later I'm still reaching for this one, time and time again, as it just seems to work nicely for me in so many potential shooting situations.

Here she is, my RX10 M4 (shot with another favorite thing, my iPhone XS):
