We've been "greyed out" for most of the week, with rain most days.Yesterday was another gorgeous Indian Summer day, so my wife and I and three friends hiked the Mary Draper Ingles trail. This trail was named in honor of Mary Draper Ingles, an early Blacksburg area resident who, with her two sons, was kidnapped by the Shawnee tribe in 1755 and taken to Ohio. She and another woman escaped and she made her way 600 miles back to her home near here. She found her way by following the rivers, and likely passed along the route of this trail.
The trail starts at a rather industrial-looking site across from the (now closed) Glen Lynn power plant:
