Yesterday was another gorgeous Indian Summer day, so my wife and I and three friends hiked the Mary Draper Ingles trail. This trail was named in honor of Mary Draper Ingles, an early Blacksburg area resident who, with her two sons, was kidnapped by the Shawnee tribe in 1755 and taken to Ohio. She and another woman escaped and she made her way 600 miles back to her home near here. She found her way by following the rivers, and likely passed along the route of this trail.

The trail starts at a rather industrial-looking site across from the (now closed) Glen Lynn power plant:

After crossing under the U.S. Route 460 bridge, the trail soon enters the forest:

There are occasional views across the river, but open views are few:

We enjoyed lunch in a wooded glade:

All-in-all, it was a very pleasant hike except for the presence of copious biting gnats which tormented us on the way back to the car.
Nice weather, nice pics and nice car! Lucky you Jim. We've been "greyed out" for most of the week, with rain most days.

Both of those are great shost remember fall 2020 by, Ed. Glad you posted them.
The sun in our face, color overhead, a reflection in front of us, and a comfy bench to sit on—with amenities like that there is nothing we can't overcome!

1. Yup, we got weather all right, wind and rain as a prelude to the winter (?) storm heading our way on Friday.
