Oh I've shot way too little B&W lately and wasn't aware... how much I miss it! Could have to do with being away, now, too - family days. Days off. Holiday flat. Grindelwald. Tomorrow, Mayla starts this years skiing school days, they'll have a few...

B&W is what I like. What's well enough, so often. Oncoming spam :)

I headed up to the nearby Colorado National Monument on this sunny but chilly day. Here are a few snaps.

I started in B&W in college and have started digitizing some of the slides and strips. This was actually from a slide taken in 1976 probably with the FE that I had at the time. Converting into B&W in LrC:

This is an amazing 'pattern'. You 'just started' then? You did very well, I'd call that.
OK, a couple:

Even though it looked as though the ice on the lake had melted for the most part, interestingly, there were some places where it apparently had not. This guy was just coming up from having submerged himself and I was surprised to see what looked to me like ice on his back:

"Hi, I don't think we've met before....." (Notice how the circles of their respective water pathways have also interlinked.....). Is this a budding romance or what?!!! :D

I really like the 2nd. Interaction, expressions, .. facial expressions? No, birds cannot do that. And still they can ;)
Some sort of low key, with just the highlights it needs. (y)

Another day, another dog walk:

I found the last one cheering. Haven't seen that many con trails at once for quite a while, so perhaps things really are loosening up a bit. OR - we've had snow, rain and cloud for so long I just haven't seen them before now.
I like 'Under a cloud', but then, that 3rd one is outstanding! This is a great sky, so much drama going on! Well composed, dynamic composition. And a landscape to match!
I broke my self-imposed photographic hiatus, and picked up the Z7 for the first time this year!

Notes in 3-dimensions.

Well done, Nick. Story telling: Mailman brought piano. Played. Recorded. Now listening ;)

It is...just doesn't look like it.
Eraser / rubber? :D Hope it tastes differently to what it looks line ;)
Bill suggested that I do some B&W drop art photography for this CS. I have to confess that, considering all the fun I've had joking with Terri in the past about cheating, I had hoped to cheat with my photos. I planned to photograph water with no coloring and present the full-color images as B&W. (That would probably have fooled everyone but only if no prismatic refractions were created. Sometimes they are; sometimes they aren't.) Unfortunately, I was too lazy to cheat. Cheating would have required removing one of the bottles from my drop art kit, cleaning it to remove the colored liquid, and returning it to the kit's frame. Instead, I photographed some liquid formations of water colored by green ink that was in one of the bottles and then converted the images to B&W using Silver Efex Pro 2.

I knew the simple formations would work well as monochromes because their lines are so strong. They actually look better to me eye as monochromes than in color.

Great set. Yes, the stong lines work in BW. But, to be honest, these would work in blue, red, green or radioactiveaggressiveüber pink as well. Well done!
I'm so glad you showed us what the Nikon profile in the camera can do!! I think these are great. Thank you so much for participating.
Oh, I can't wait to have time again to sit at the computer and do BW with Capture Obe again ;)

We have only attended basketball games of our grandkids virtually this winter. Yesterday was my granddaughter's last game at a gym that is about 5 minutes from our home. My daughter called and said that there were hardly any people there and we could safely socially distance. So I grabbed my camera, which had an 85 f1.8mm lens on it and quickly went to watch the part of the game that was remaining. The lighting was mixed and horrible. So I thought these might be better converted to B&W. I also messed up on the shutter speed. I had it too slow. Not my finest photography experience. But hopefully came away with a couple of photos my granddaughter will like.
Gym light... Always horrible. Yes I hope you got some keepers. I can feel with you: camera in hand that easily gets away with ISO 3200, higher of threatened well, and yet higher when BW, and then realising back home: I messed it up! Been there, done that. :( :D
Klaus' granddaughter, Emma, would love to splash her way down that trail!

Wet, gloomy, and well captured, Jim.
Oh, and not just Emma... ;)
