Under Windows XP you could use either but sticking with Mass Storage is probably the way you want to go.

Mass Storage makes the camera look like a disk drive to the computer.

PTP stands for Picture Transfer Protocol and it allows Windows XP (or Mac OS X 10.1.3) to handle the transfer of images from the camera to the computer.

I'd be surprised if anyone here used PTP.



Use a CF card reader instead of transferring directly from the camera. Faster and more reliable. Always the preferred option with any DSLR.
