D2X bird shots

    It rained off and on today but I did manage to shoot a few with the new toy. I used the 70-200mm VR with the 1.7TC. That combo works great, especially with the high speed crop mode. Here are links to two file, the first is the full frame, resized, and the second is a 1:1 crop from that frame:

    The bird is a Carolina Wren (I think) and is pretty common but hard to photograph because it moves so fast and isn't a perching bird. For this shot I set a log section on the deck rail near the feeder and waited (a little peanut butter in the top crevice helped). I should have gone to a higher ISO and faster shutter speed but wasn't smart enough to do that quickly.

    Great exposyure and bokeh on this hard to capture guy, the crop feature is very interstign to me on this camera

    Thanks to you both. Today is a sunnier day so I will try to get some more shots posted this evening, maybe some full 12-megapixel JPEGs.
