Well, I finally got a chance to use the above combo at my son's HS Football scrimmage today. Overcast day with a little sun. I sat in the stands with the rig mounted on my Feisol monopod.

I shot aperture priority, wide open iso 400. I shot raw and converted photos to jpegs with no PP.

Pretty sharp images and I must admit I am quite pleased with the setup. I will try it next time with my TC14E. I normally use a DH2 without TC's.

  2. i just wanted to show them directly for you:

  3. nice shots, by the way
but... i'd crop them MUCH CLOSER
with that lens, camera/TC setup.... i know that you were far away

you can surely crop them.... A LOT, with no loss of quality

  4. if you care to post some MUCH BIGGER SIZE images... directly here
we can give you some crop suggestions.... IF you would desire

    Hi Greg,

Thanks for the help and the advice. I posted them exactly how I shot them just to show the results. Well, as best I could considering the size of the original files.

I just figured out how to add the photos directly :) .

    Again, thanks for the help.

    Greg,

Yes, I was in the stands in the last row. Never moved from my seat.

Thanks, Peter. Funny thing is I went to see my son's game and reluctantly brought my camera as I am dragging my butt today. I sat in the stands and literally did not move the entire game :) .

This was the first time I shot with the D3 and 300 2.8 lens. I knew the reach would be a tad short so I added the TC17EE. I really am pleased with the results. However, while it was overcast, it was still a pretty bright day. I am not quite sure if the results would be the same if I were shooting at night under the lights. I guess that will be my next test and it may also provide an excuse for me to get a 400mm 2.8 AFS VR lens

    Regards.
