  1. I just had my hands on a D3 with a 70-200,(pro photographer@my work)
I'm 6'3" and could palm a basket ball in 7th grade.I would not want to walk around with this monster combo for long.

Jim, we all feel that, until you try a 200 f/2, or 300 f/2.8 when you say the same (again), which lasts just as long until you try a 500 f/4 or a 200-400 f/4 when you say it (yet again), until you try a 400 f/2.8 when the story (for most) ends  now where are your test shots posted, eh?
  3. I walk around with a D3 70-200 VR and a D2X 200-400 VR all day long with no monopod. And I'm 5'7"!

Well Jonathan we aren't all 5'7" wide!!!!

(just kiddin' if you missed the smilie)
  5. That's okay, it takes a lot of beer to get that kind of strength!
  6. I'm 61 and a big woos!!! I need to be carried around all day.
  7. I look forward to doing the light work with the 70-200 or 24-70 lol. It all becomes very relative when you're used to schlepping the D3 with 400/2.8 and D300 with 200/2 around all day.
  8. Well

I've just been on a safari trip where I was holding a D2X and 80-400 for multiple hours each day, I believe this to be very comparable in size and weight. It was no problem for me, but I have regularly done this over the last year, and am relatively young - although I don't have large hands and am a computer scientist...

Perhaps I am ready to upgrade to heavier stuff ;-) What was next in the hierarchy the 200-400 - how do I tell the wife?

Agree with Mike. Last week, shooting with a 400mm 2.8 on a D2Hs handheld. Putting it down to pick up a 70-200 on my other D2hs and it really did feel like a lightweight plastic toy. Everytime I picked it up I had to double check to make sure it was mine !!!
