D3: order of firmware updates

I'm probably the last person in the world to have learned this but in case there's one other person who didn't know about it --

I got a reply from Nikon tech support today -- an answer to my question about whether I needed to go from firmware v.1.0 to 1.1 before upgrading to firmware v.2.0. Answer: nope. Fine to upgrade directly to 2.0.
