Just got my new D3 yesterday. I have been shooting Canon for many years now so all of this is a bit different for me. I shoot rodeos and only rodeos so I hoped I could get some recomendations on the set up of this camera.

make sure you set AFC Focus to Release+Focus
the D3's shutter will jam if you leave the setting on just Focus. You should not get many oof shots with release+focus even though it seems like you might...

now this is a recomendation from the V1 firmware...i haven't updated yet

I used my D3 at a rodeo, not a 'real' one but the closest I came to one.

I was very pleased with the performance, though I was quite excited to see my first rodeo and surely moved a lot, the camera was superb and nailed the shots in spite of me!
