D300 outer focus points

Discussion in 'Nikon DX DSLR Forum' started by VOLKeith, Jun 28, 2008.

  1. I have found the D300 outer focus points to be so unreliable I will not use them anymore. Especially if shooting at large apetures the focus with the outer points will not focus reliably. This is even for stationary targets. Anyone else feel the same?

It depends on the lighting. In daylight I can use them with 21 point Dynamic-area focus mode and that works very well for windsurfers and such. In lower light I use the center with 51 point 3D Dynamic-area mode focus mode and then let the subject move to the outer edges and that also works very well for me.

    no problems here
  4. no probs here...they behave the same for me, very accurate, although I need release priority set to focus+release (for all the sensors) or the shutter button occasionaly jams
  5. Thanks.

My problem is with large apetures like f1.4 - f2.8. I think they may work OK in S but in C mode they are not reliable.
