Hello,

Not sure if this is the place to post this. My friend just bought a Nikon D3100 and a AF-S 55-200mm f4-5.6G ED lens. After she attaches it to her camera it says "No lens attached". It will somewhat work if the camera is in complete Manual mode...But I was wondering is there another alternative lens that will work with the D3100?? Or should this lens work with the D3100?

Thanks in advance!

The 55-200 lens is an AF-S (auto focus motor built into the lens) lens and should work with the D3100. If the contacts on the body and lens are clean, the lens is full seated in the body and the body still doesn't detect the lens, then there is a problem with either the lens or body.

Try using different lens/body combinations to determine where the problem is.
