Considering buying the 17-55 and I wondered if anyone has these two. Any pictures taken with the combo? How about any pictures OF the combo?

    Thanks!

Having the 17-55 I think it would throw the D40 completely out of balance. It feels just right on my D2H, almost weird on my D50 so I can't even imagine on a camera smaller and lighter than the D50 …

    i think it would rock!

  4. I put my 17-55 on a D40 just to see.

Strangely, because the weight difference is so huge, with the body being so light, it's not too off balance, you take nearly all of the weight with the left hand.

    hold the lens instead

  6. Tried D40 with 70-200 AFS VR and 18-200 AFS VR DX, camera body is almost no bigger than rear lens cap especially on 70-200 , plus D40 drives AFS lens well - big lens but small body cool combo IMHO, go for it.

An awesome combo in my opinion. The weight of the combo is perfect.

I still use this setup all the time. It just works! Combine the compactness and sharpness of the little D40 with this great 17-55DX lens and you've got a winner. Now is the time to snap up a 17-55 too, with a bunch of people ditching them for FX cameras and lenses. Wow, $800-900 used in the For Sale forum!

One of my all-time scenic favorites from this combo:

I think it's a cute combo even though the balance throws you off, you really have to hold lens.
