D40 SB400 social snaps .

I don't do many of these so it was a good chance to practice my skills .
I took the D40 and SB400 with the modification I've made to it for bounce flash .

This time I went totally manual [except flash ] to practice what I have learned here about balancing for ambient . I did a few frontal flashes because all the other patrons freaked out a bit each time I did a bounce flash .... these new Zealanders don't see much lightning .

I shot one out the window , I used to work with these guys - he's busy phoning up a fellow worker who is on 24hr standby and pretending to be a customer needing an urgent job on a broken down truck ...

I had the flash dialed back to -0.7 by this stage .

I got tired of frontal flash and since I was in a corner I did the bounce flash thing with a bit of forward bounce from the modifier .

Much better results I'd say . Mostly at iso 800 , F5.6 1/30th sec .

Thanks , I don't know how much difference it made in this situation but where it is really useful is when you get closer to the subject :
