D40 with 50mm 1.8

Discussion in 'Lens Lust' started by wrekognized, Aug 8, 2007.

  1. I'm really wanting this lens to go along with the D40 I'm soon receiving. I know I'll have to manually focus and all but just wondering if it was really THAT hard and annoying to manually focus. Does anyone have sample shots from the D40 with this lens? D40 owners who own it, what do you guys think of the lens and the whole manual focus issue?

  2. It is not THAT hard of course, but it is more time cosuming than AF anyway. (Unless you are doing macro, landscape etc)
It is like adding, multiplying, dividing etc. We all can do it, but show me one that would not prefer to use a calculator

This is a perfect combo, if Nikon makes it AF, but I still love it for everything but people. I am not good with MF so people got impatient with me. :)  I eventually gave up D40 and keep D50.

the 50mm f/1.8 is a prime lens and very easy to manually focus. it's such a small lens and gives a very bright viewfinder due to its f/1.8 aperture. it should be fine on a D40.

  5. Great. I'm thinking this will be my next lens purchase before the 55-200mm VR..I should try it out at a camera store though.

with all the success of the d40 i can't imagine nikon not comming out with a consumer priced AFS prime in the very near future...;-)
    ...btw, nice shots Ken.

Ken, sure... small world :)  We'll save a lot of shippings if we sell stuff to each other. :)

Nute, the only reason I sold my D40 (which I love) is that they don't have a consumer AFS prime. If Nikon ever do that, I would be the first one getting on line. :)

Thanks...this dog is even cuter in person!

  17. Nute I think it'll be a long time if ever that primes are offer w/AFS. The D40 users are much more likely to be attracted to zooms IMO. Unfortunate Nikon discontinued their D50...I guess they just corrected a marketing error.
