I need a cheap backup to my D7000 for a vacation trip.
I have the opportunity to purchase a D40x for $275 or a D100 for $200.

What is your opinion?

I'd have to go D40x as well. The D100 is reputed to be quite sluggish, and has the tiny old screen, and a slightly "worse" version of the 6MP sensor in the successor, D70. I'd take the better screen and sensor of the D40x. Only get the D100 is the extras $75 is absolutely paramount (unless someone can come up with a major advantage to the D100).

I'd vote 40x too. However, are any of your lenses non AF-S, note that 40x won't focus these.

I sent the seller the web site for OPANDA, so he could get me a shutter count. He replied, thanking me for the info, but also informed me he had sold the lens.......bummer

my mrs loves her D40x & she wont ever part with it even though i bought her a new D90 a few weeks ago
as a small carry around travel camera for cheap money they must be the only sensible choice :)
