How do I get an SB 24 and SB 600 to sync using my D50.
I have the AS-15 adapter so I can use the SB 24 off camera?

I've heard of people talk about slaves, but I don't know how
they work. My guess is I have to attach a slave to one of my
    flashes, but which one?

The optical slave will have to connect to the SB-600, because it does not otherwise have a PC cord connector, and you will have no other way to trigger it. The slave unit will have to be a shoe-mounted slave to connect to the SB-600 (so those slaves that connect to a PC cord will be useless for the SB-600). Then a long PC cord from AS-15 to SB-24 will trigger the SB-24, and its flash will trigger the optical slave unit added to the SB-600. Everything is in manual mode of course, both flashes and the D50 exposure.

    Something shoe-mounted from this list:

Wein is a good name. I have also used a Morris with good results.
