D700 does Chihuly Glass.

  1. Yesterday I visited the de Young Museum in San Francisco.
I'd been wanting to see the glass exhibit there by Dale Chihuly, which ends soon, September 28th.

The light levels were low and bright spot lights added glare.
No flash was allowed, a perfect opportunity for the D700 and the 24-70mm f.2.8!

It was a great opportunity to explore high ISO!
Here's a sampling of my pics.

Wow, nice and colorful photos you got there, I am impressed how can you handhold for such low SS, for sure I won't be able do the same, good job.

  3. Great shots Virginia. Chilhuly's are definitely not easy to photograph at exhibits (I tried at an exhibit at Grounds For Sculpture in NJ). You did a terrific job with all that light clutter.

  4. Great glass and great photos.

  5. Very nice. Love Chihuly's stuff. Seen it in Vegas, Miami and Seattle.

  6. His stuff is pretty cool. Now he pretty much does the deigns and has a slew of workers blow the glass. He looks like a pirate with that eye-patch, which makes his work even cooler.

Good shots of some pricey glass!

  7. GREAT images!!

    Thanks for sharing!!

(Memo to self ... take the D300 to Dale's "home" museum here in Tacoma ........)

  8. Great images of beautiful art. I love art glass. #3 is truly spectacular!

    Virginia,

Very nice. I especially like #3.

Chihuly had an exhibit in NY a couple of years ago and I attended. I was shooting a D200 at the time, so I was lucky to have decent light. Here's my favorite from my visit.

I don't like everything he creates, but some of them completely wow me with their beauty.

  12. Striking piece Glenn... Well captured!

  13. Neat stuff, Virginia. I took pictures of some Chihuly art at the Tacoma Glass Museum.

    Thanks, Rich.
I was shooting with another Cafe member that day -- Gogo.
It was taken while I was testing out his older 20 3.5 ais. Pretty sharp lens.

  15. Hi Virginia a very nice set of first class images.

    Phil.

  16. Thank you, Alex.

When it's crowded in any museum, it's tough to get good shots.
It wasn't bad a little after noon when I got there, but, as the afternoon worn on, there were more and more people. Occasionally there were a few "tail bumbs".

    Thanks, Les. Great camera too.

There certainly is something magical about Chihuly's work.

It was amazing to see the variety of works too.

    Good thought, Ken.
Do post your pics when you do.

Thanks, Rich. I know you're having a lot of fun with your D700 too!

John, San Francisco is has so much to offer the photographer. I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Yes, mdjak, all the images were handheld.

Thanks for sharing, Tosh. This piece looks like one in the SF show.

    I agree!

    Lovely, Frank.
Was this a glass ceiling shot like the one at the de Young?

    Thank you, Phil.
The D700 with the 24-70 f/2.8 was made for this show!
