More? I have the same combo, and find it yields decent results.

Love those shots, the first one I would hang on the wall.

    Thanks for sharing,
  6. %100 crop pleeeease? Very keen to see how sharp this combo really is as its one I've been thinking about.

    as requested
my 70-200 is from the latest delivery to Clifton last week, apparently the "vignetting issue at 70 wide open" has been resolved although i have not had time to confirm that yet

  8. The eagle especially is very impressive! Seems like a more than usable combination! Great stuff!!
  9. Impressive!
  10. Nice shots. I'm kind of surprised at the results myself. I use my 70-200 with both my D3 and D2x, but never tried a TC with it. I tried a TC with my old 80-200 and got OK results. Nothing special. I just figured that TCs were better suited on primes. It looks like that may have to change.
  11. I think a lot of the reason people would get soft results in the past was becuase you couldn't fine tune autofocus. That has made a big difference I think. My 600 with a 1.4 on is set to -6 but the 1.7 is set to -20 (and could really do with a fraction more). Set to zero, both were well out!
  12. Hmmm. What are you using to fine tune the AF? Do you simply take a shot with different AF tune settings and find the one that works the best? I have tried with my D3 a few times and just gave up. It seemed like a real PITA.

After seeing this thread, I mounted the 70-200 VR and my TC20EII to the D3 and made a couple test shots. Results were very good! If I can fine tune the AF, it may be a bit better. This brings new life to a lens I was disappointed with when I first bought it.
