Since the D3/D300/D700 can use D2x picture modes, is the D7000 able to use the same ones? Or would we have to wait until Nikon releases new picture modes (IF they decide to release any)?

Those picture control settings are not in the D7000 menu and don't show up in Capture NX2 when a D7000 NEF is opened. Perhaps they can be downloaded.

No, D3s, D300s, D3100 and D7000 do not have access to any in camera D2x profiles.

Doesn't look like Nikon has released the D2X picture controls for the D7000. Here is the official website: http://nikonimglib.com/opc/

The D2x profiles were temporary alternatives introduced when the D3 and D300 came in 2007. Since the color, hue and tone curve in these cameras did differ some from the D2x Nikon offered the D2x profiles. The D700 and the D3x (december 2008) were also given these alternative profiles. I am sure Nikon will not provide the D2x profiles for any further cameras.
