D7200, D800 single focal point

I use the single focal point a lot, now for some reason I know I used to be able to move it up/down, rt/lt when viewed in my view finder by using the multi selector switch when the subject is off center, as I may want, now for some reason it is in one position and will not move, I have tried everything that I know of, and it's stuck on both cameras, anyone have a magic wand?

There is a lock for the point, marked by a dot (unlocked) and L (Locked).

Yup, obvious and painful, especially when I accidentally move the lever with my nose (I'm left eyed). Honk, honk!
