D850 shutter release problem (at times)

Every weekend I shoot pupp0ies pictures. I shoot in Manual mode, f8, 1/80, iso 200, with a Speedlight SB 600. At times the shutter will not release/trip. Then after a while it does. I miss many good shots because I never know when it is going to malfunction. Any ideas as to what might be causing this problem?

Thanks for the input, fella's. The shutter release is set to "none", so that's not it. "Release set to focus". Confused on that one.
Jim - "Release set to focus" means the shutter won't fire if the camera is not focused properly. If your focus is a little off, you will press the shutter release and nothing will happen until focus is achieved. "set to release" will allow the camera to fire immediately, even if the subject is not in focus.
