    Some advice-
If you were buying the new D90 from BH and had no Nikon lenses already, what would you get instead of the kit lens?

Mostly indoor and portrait shots, maybe wedding. Need excellent IQ.
Prefer no flash most of the time but also buy a Nikon flash unit.
Limited budget after buying the body and flash; keep it under $3K total.

Maybe a 17-55/2.8 and, for longer distance, an 85/1.8?

What package would you put together for the D90?

I'd suggest that you start a new thread on this question in the D90 or LensLust sections so as not to confuse this thread.

I'm sure there are lots of folks willing to provide you their opinion on this topic.

I picked up the D90 w/lens and immetiatly sold the kit lens...I actually did not even open the lens box! Just packed it up and shipped it off. My Nikkor 17-55 2.8 lives on the camera most of the time. The lens just fits with the D90. Perfect size and balance. You cannot argue the quality of the 17-55. I also have the 50mm 1.4, but am lusting at the 85 1.8 for headshots.

I would think the D90 with 17-55 2.8 and the 85 1.8 would be a pretty killer combination. Fast glass with a body that performs very well at higher ISO's. When I run the D90 in AUTOISO, I set it to 1600, but if that looks a bit short, I have no worries letting it run up to 3200.
