Any suggestions on optimally "tweaking" my Dell XPS machine to make it faster with D2x files. It SHOULD be quite fast, but is quite bogged down. Before I spend a lot of $$ on upgrading, can someone here point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Go to "Black Viper's" site: http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm and use his guide to turn off all unnecessary services. I use the "Safe" tweaks. Turn off all that XP eye candy too. I run in classic mode. You can go to properties of My Computer, and then to the Advanced tab, and Settings to diable all that fluff that just slows your puter down. Also, at the time of editing, do a Ctrl-Alt-Del and turn off all the apps you don't need at the time of editing. You'll need to reboot to get them turned on again. Sort by memory usage.
I'm running into this same problem with my Dell XPS P4 2.8, and this does help. Also, I'm using a program called "Clean Up!" (it's free) http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ to dump temp files if I've been surfing for pics a lot, then, being anal, I do this again again after editing to be clean for the next editing session. This also helps.
