Displaying NEFs in Windows 10 File Explorer

Well found another issue with getting my new PC up to speed and that is, not displaying a NEF image within File Explorer. When sorting through images all that is shown is a PS logo with the image number below for NEFs but not a thumbnail of the image, for JPGs all is OK. I've downloaded the Nikon Codec but can't find a Microsoft Codec, if that's what I need.
Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks.

Richard, thank you very much I really appreciate this. I've been looking for the Sony codec and they no longer provide it, so I was sort of stuck. All works very well for both my Sony images and the NEF's.
