Has anyone tried to get longer shutter times with ND filters for IR work?
Yes, though last time I tried I was using an ND400, which is an extremely dark ND filter
So i'm not sure if they block the same amount of light as they do for visible light.
Great. As long as its something as opposed to almost none. I know that some sunglasses don't bock much IR even though they are visibly dark to the eye.
They do block some IR but not as much as they block visible light. More importantly, however, they cause a noticeable red color shift. I use black and white filters instead. A green filter blocks a lot of IR (something like 2 or 3 stops) and causes a bluer color shift.
