Dog Painting

Discussion in 'Retouching and Post Processing' started by Mike Warren, Dec 31, 2005.

  1. Hi,

I have been lurking here for a while and notice a lot of familiar names from DPR so some of you may have seen this already. I'm looking for advice on how to improve my painting technique. What could I have done better here?

  2. This is cool....really like it  you lost a few wiskers on the left side (his left) of his face....if you could paint those back in I think it would make it look more 3D and stand out from the background more...just a suggestion
  3. Thanks Mike. I did that deliberately. Naughty me. Thought I should have also removed the bit of collar coming out the back.

Nothing new to report from 2006. I've been here for 20 minutes now. Happy New Year.

  13. Hi, Mike

 Welcome to Nikon Cafe. I like your image and the way you lighened the eyes from the original. The background you chose also helps. Noice touchup!

What techniques did you use to do this?

    aka beaucamera
  14. Thanks Virginia,

It's smudge painting done in Photoshop. Then I applied two passes of USM with different settings.

    Hi Mike

Have seen this on dpreview and it looks superb.

Really like the artistic touch - it seems sharper than usual smudge work.

Did you use a different technique please?

    All the best

  17. I like it a lot. Great portrait. Perhaps a green and simpler background to complement the purple in the collar. Just my first thought. There are lots of right answers. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I would change a thing. Nice.
  18. Mike, that is just great. Far be it from me to critique this wonderful image.
  19. Cute dog. Lou Lou is a miniture Schnauzer.
