Downey Woodpecker

Discussion in 'Birds' started by Jim Strathearn, May 1, 2007.

  1. We seem to have a run of Downey's lately. We can have as many as 6 on the feeders at any one time... Here are two:

The first one is as good as you can get! Outstanding image!

I can't seem to get Downy's with any regularity. Anything special at your feeders that keep them coming back?
  8. Thanks!

    Thanks Alex.

Thanks Bob. They are a little easier then looking for eagles...

    Thanks Debbie!

    Thanks George.
  9. Thanks Andy!

We have a feeder with suet baskets on each end. The Downey's love the suet. (The suet also brings in the Red Bellied...) I also bait a dead tree with peanuts, although I haven't started doing that yet this year. This is the most Downey's I've seen here ever. We are also seeing a lot of Blue-jays, although they don't stay around long enough to pose...
  10. Nice shots!

  11. Thanks Anthony!

Great shots Jim! I hope they are still there for the BBQ...
  13. They are here year round. I'll have them baited to a dead tree trunk for the BBQ. Sound like a plan?
