Download From D300 to ipad?

I haven't been photographically active lately, but I moving in the direction of starting up again. I'm making my first foray into apple computing (beyond my iphone) with an iPad. I know it isn't much in the way of Apple computing but it is a start. If I am on a trip, will I be able to download my d300 files to the iPad. I saw that the camera connector allows you to do it with an SD card, but my old d300 only has compact flash.

I've been quietly following this board for a long time and I know there is a great deal of individual and collective knowledge here. Hopefully someone will be able to answer this question and perhaps give me any other tips that could be helpful.

Thanks Quicklook. The Apple Store made it seem like the camera connector is an SD card reader itself. You're saying that it creates a usb port?
