dx lenses on the 700?

  1. I am wondering how your dx lenses are working on the D700. Am planning on buying a wider zoom for my 300 but thinking of the future here too.

  2. They won't work in FX mode because the camera sets your sensor size virtually to DX mode with only 5 MPixel.

All DX lenses work in DX crop mode equally well as they do on a real DX camera. The downside is the 5.1 Mpix image size.

You can override the DX crop mode and use DX lenses in FX mode. Some lenses can fill the FX frame in some zoom settings, but I have not tested how the image quality holds up in the corners.

For example the 17-55/2.8DX lens fills the FX frame in 35-55 mm focal range. Not a large range but better than nothing. The 12-24/4DX fills the FX frame between 19-24 mm.
