Another opportunity to view an Eagle Banding.

Crane Creek sent me this and I thought that I would pass it along. There is another Eagle Banding in Richland County. That is the county where Mansfield is. It will be held on June 16, that is Monday. If you can go, I would recommend it. It was an awesome experience.

PUBLIC WELCOME AT CLEAR FORK BALD EAGLE BANDING

FINDLAY, Ohio - The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife will be conducting a bald eagle banding on Monday, June 16, 2008 at Clear Fork Reservoir in Richland County. This event is open to the public, and offers a great opportunity to see our national symbol up close.

The event will begin at 10:00 a.m., and last about an hour. A biologist will retrieve the eaglet. Once on the ground, the eaglet will be given a brief health examination and fitted with a metal leg band and then be returned safely to the nest. This event is weather-dependant; heavy rain, high winds or lightning would be cause for cancellation.

By the later half of the 20th century, the bald eagle was classified as an endangered species. This, however, is a case with positive results. Through the diligent efforts of the Ohio Division of Wildlife and a concerned public, the bald eagle population is coming back and is no longer on the federal or State of Ohio endangered list. Its federal and state status has been upgraded to "threatened."

Participants should meet in the shared parking area for Picnic Area 2 and 3, which is located just off State Route 97. After a short introductory briefing, Division of Wildlife employees will remove the eaglet from the nest and return to a pavilion near the parking area to conduct the banding. Visitors are encouraged to wear clothing suitable for the weather and for walking a short distance.
