Not sure where else to put this, so I'll try here. Took a fishing trip with my dad and 3 oldest kids last week to our/my favorite place in the world: the June Lakes area. We camp on Gull Lake, and this time we fished there exclusively. The weather wasn't as cooperative this year (rain, clouds, wind) but we still managed to come home with a decent amount, although the lateness of the season meant smaller fish than usual.

Sorry for the pic quality, but all of these shots were taken with my cell phone (and yes, many them via Instagram, having fun with that )...

First morning, gorgeous!

I love our old boat, and 1970's something Starcraft... perfect for bombing around and not worrying about it!

The kids even got into the water, cold though it was! Around 57 degrees... kids!!!

Golden light, again in the morning. The large rock peak in the background is Carson Peak.

My dad with the catch of the trip... a nice 3 lb rainbow. Usually we get a couple in that range and one or two in the 4-5 lb range... a few years ago my brother caught a 6 lb rainbow!!!

Thanks Wiz, we sure did. If this have been a purely fishing trip with the guys it would have been a disappointment, but it was a little getaway with the kids, and they surely enjoyed it!

Beautiful set that brings back a lot of memories …
My family stayed in cabins along June Lake several years ago while visiting Yosemite ….
didn't have a motel and stumbled upon this wonderful place and will never forget the sunrise that morning …
Beautiful area ---

Brings back lots of nice memories. I really enjoyed hiking and backpacking in the Sierras. Spectacular area. Skiing at Mammoth was always great. And visiting Mono Lake and Bodie fun too. Photo tours at Bodie were really fun back then. One year we did the Rae Lakes loop trip.....What a great trip that was!

It sure is, I think, one of the most beautiful places which makes it one of my favorites. I think if the whole family comes next year we are going to get a cabin rather than camp... it's so much easier with kids! I've been going to this area for about 7 years running, and there are still so many places to explore! Thanks for the tip about Rae Lakes loop, I will have to look into that. And Mammoth, while overly busy for me, is still a must-stop place to visit the brewery and get some of their IPA that I like so much.
