This is my favorite wooden post. About 1/2 the time I go to this pond, there is an egret preening in the light.
I really need to ask the HOA if I can replace the post with a tree limb or something more natural looking, but a knurly old post is what I have.
This fellow just looked proud to sit there. It was quite windy, so plumbs were flowing everywhere.
I really need to find something else to shoot- but these guys really are so much fun I can not stop.

Nice one, Gary. I generally dislike shooting in wind but with egrets it definitely adds a lot to the shot. Particularly with this style that you've developed. IMO in B/W the post looks fine.

Superb image. Not much to critique except maybe a vertical crop and choosing a nice frame to display it. :)

I tried a vertical crop, and I didn't like it as well. With a vertical crop the bird seemed to be looking outside of the frame- it was odd feeling. I like the landscape orientation, as it gives the bird room to look. Probably overthinking this.
Connie, I am lucky. I actually rarely shot locally- as I travelled out west every winter/spring. The covid lockdown made me stay home, and I have had a ball. People often do not appreciate what they see everyday.
