Elk in the Smokies

Discussion in 'Other Animals' started by DogFather, Aug 6, 2008.

  1. This is a shot of a Bull Elk in the Smoky Mountain National Park. About 15 minutes from our cabin is the Oconaluftee Visitor Center by Cherokee. Around it are large open fields that the elk sometimes graze in early in the morning and just before dusk. If you have a long lens (Sigma 50-500mm) and some patience, you can get some good shots although the lighting is sometimes difficult. Other wildlife we frequently see there or in the park are Deer, Coyote, Turkey, Woodchuck & Fox. Once in awhile black bear. I did chase off one just down from our cabin early one morning when walking one of the dogs.

Couldn't ask for a better pose could you?

Makes me miss the smokies. We were up there just a couple months ago and can't wait to go back!
